Divison of Radioactive Waste Management Research

Purpose

To protect human and the environment from radioactive waste (intermediate and low-level, and high-level) in a safe manner by promoting academic activities and expertise, and identifying and proposing solutions to the academic, technical, and social issues related to the management of the process of generation, handling, packaging, transportation, and disposal of radioactive waste, including radiation safety management.

Mission

  • Protective technology for shielding against radiation exposure for workers handling radioactive waste at nuclear power plants
  • Radiation safety management technology for non-nuclear radioactive waste (industry, medicine, defense, daily life, etc.)
  • Radiation environmental management technology for the disposal facilities of intermediate and low-level radioactive waste
  • Radiation safety management technology for spent nuclear fuel
  • Radioanuclide analysis which is performed mandatorily and quantification technology for radiation safety management throughout the entire nuclear cycle.
  • Collaborative activities with related domestic agencies, academic organizations, and organizations dealing with radioactive waste.
