Dear President and AS delegates,

Please find for comments from the Eye lens dose limit TG,  the final draft of the IRPA guideline protocol for eye dose monitoring and eye protection of workers.

1-       In January 2015, IRPA launched a Task Group aiming to contribute in creating a positive and complete awareness of radiation protection in the work place, with a particular focus on exposure of the lens of the eye.

IRPA Associate Societies (ASs) were asked to provide views and comments on the basis of a questionnaire, addressing four topics:

·         implications for dosimetry;

·         implications for methods of protection;

·         wider implications of implementing the revised limits,

·         legislative and other general aspects.

Reminder : The IRPA Report of this survey has been already distributed to you on May 19th and your comments are expected by September 20th.

2-       Moreover, the Task Group has prepared the “IRPA guideline protocol for eye dose monitoring and eye protection of workers”,  with the purpose to provide practical recommendations about when and how eye lens dose should be monitored, in the framework of the implementation of the new ICRP dose limit for the lens of the eye, as well as guidance on use of protective devices, depending on the exposure levels.
